Looking Glass Falls is one of the most accessible waterfalls in Pisgah National Forest — a 60-foot cascade visible right from US-276, with a viewing platform at the top and a short stairway down to the base. There's no hike to reach it: you park, walk down the steps, and you're at the base.

It sits in a tight cluster with Sliding Rock and Moore Cove Falls, so one trip up US-276 covers three of the area's best-known spots. Basing yourself near Brevard also skips the daily haul from Asheville that most visitors make.

Go early
The roadside lot is small and fills fast on summer weekends. Mornings are quietest.
Dogs welcome
Leashed dogs are fine at the viewing area and stairs.
Mind the rocks
The rocks around the base stay slick year-round — climbing on the falls is genuinely dangerous.
Best seasons
Spring for full flow, October for foliage, and cold snaps sometimes freeze it into a 'looking glass' of ice.

Good to know

The cabins on this page sit about 20 minutes from the falls, which also puts Sliding Rock and Moore Cove Falls within a similar drive.

There's a pool at the base, but it isn't a designated swim area and the rocks are slick, so it's best treated as a viewing spot. For swimming, the base of Hooker Falls in nearby DuPont State Forest is the safer, popular choice.

Yes. There's no entry fee — just the small roadside parking area, which fills quickly on warm-weather weekends.

Yes, leashed dogs are welcome at the viewing platform and stairs. Several cabins on this page are pet-friendly — filter by 'Pets' above.

Early morning any season for parking and quiet. Spring brings the heaviest flow, October the fall color, and hard freezes can turn the falls into a wall of ice.
